I remember our toilet not flushing and my dad getting in the loft to break the ice ! Scrapping the ice off the inside of the windows.
Harsh times indeed.

I believe you ted, funny thing was that I lived in Manor Park during both those winters, Herbert road in '47 and Parkhurst road in '63 both houses with outside loos & no heating other than a coal fire, and some people call them the good old days!

Claret

It's official that 1963/4 was the most severe winter in the 20th century ! however 1947 was second :-)

Bah humbug, you're all big girls blouses, 1947 was a proper winter, food rationing & freezing temperatures, I really don't remember much of it as I was 6 at the time.

Northern, I remember it well. Started to snow on Boxing Day & didn't clear until April. As a kid it was wonderful. We seemed to spend weeks just sledging. The more we fell off the more we laughed. Health and safety would not have allowed it.

That's rubbish Mr Anon as I've had several instances this year already where they've been inaccurate a few hours in advance, sorry !

Pretty outdated view that MET service is not accurate, short term forecasts are very accurate, but anything over 4 days is unreliable, and they'd be the first to admit it.

I agree with Fred Flintstone.

The current BBC/Met Office forecast (whizzy computer models; satellite imaging) says 'pissing down with rain'. It ain't. But yeah, let's mock Piers Corbyn.

All the weather predictors in the UK are about as accurate as Coffee's football predictions or GTHCs West Ham predictions, better off sticking your head out the window

Newspapers with such headlines have been chemically proven to keep tramps & the homeless a bit warmer at night, so at least they're doing their bit.
